Close encounter with a crazy driver

Last Friday Damian brought the kids downtown to meet me after work for dinner at the Spaghetti Warehouse to have my birthday dinner. Afterward, she took Becca in my car to go get the babysitter and I drove home in the minivan with Aidan and Kaliska. It was about 7pm and it was dark outside. About halfway home, I was in the far left lane going about 70 mph. Up ahead there was a left exit off the freeway. I noticed there was a car ahead in the lane to the right of me which had come to a complete stop in the middle of the freeway and was turned 90 degrees across traffic. They had missed the exit and were going to try to cut in front of my path of travel to get to the left exit.

I could scarcely believe it and barely managed to brake in time to avoid a head-on collision into the drivers door of the other vehicle. If I hadn't braked in time, I would have killed the other driver for sure and totaled our minivan, certainly injuring the kids and myself in the process. Thank God I was able to brake just enough to avoid that disaster! As it was, it was such a close call that there is actually paint from the other vehicle's rear bumper on our left-front bumper!

I still can't believe anyone could be so stupid as to do what that other driver did, but the important thing is we're all OK and our car isn't damaged. It sure scared the bejeebers out of me, though!
