In Memory of Gayle

Gayle Crookston Miller

1925 ~ 2012
Gayle Crookston Miller died in Salt Lake City on May 14, 2012, of the consequences of lymphoma. She was born on June 13, 1925 in Lewiston, Utah, to Laurn Edgar Crookston and Blanche Pond. She grew up in Logan, Utah. There she met David Russell Miller at Utah State University. They were married on November 1, 1949. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS temple. They had five children: Janine, David, Rebecca, Robert, and Douglas.
Gayle and Dave moved to California where Dave became a principal in an international engineering firm. Dave traveled extensively, and Gayle was able to join him in many travels. In particular, she treasured the time she was able to spend together with Dave in Saudi Arabia where he served for 18 months as Director General of the Saudi Public Transport Company. She loved the adventure, the different culture, the native markets and interesting food.
Throughout her life Gayle was a pillar of stability and values as a parent and Christian to her friends and family. Gayle was a devoted member of the LDS Church and gave years of service in many capacities, including a temple mission in Dallas, Texas, from 1990 - 1992. She was a skilled seamstress and quilter. She volunteered for nearly two decades in the German-Latin name extraction program and at the Museum of Church History and Art. She also served at local election stations and was a long-time member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Gayle is survived by her children Janine (Howard) Lund and Robert Miller, her sisters Joan (Jack) Smith and Laurna (Richard) Lundberg, her grandchildren Dedrick (Damian) Lund, Niels Lund, Hans Lund, David T. Miller, Marisa Miller, Madeline Miller, Gavin Miller, Amanda Miller, Zachary Miller, Samuel Miller, Joseph Miller, and great-grandchildren Rebecca, Aidan, and Kaliska Lund. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986, son Douglas in 1968, daughter Rebecca in 1980, son David in 2002, and grandson Lars Lund in 2010. Her own words about such losses were, "You learn to cope and carry on."
Most of all, she was a great friend. In turn, her amazing friends and neighbors were there for her especially during her last illness.
The family wishes to thank the Monument Park 17th Ward and Hospice for Utah for their devoted and compassionate care.
The funeral service will be Saturday, May 19th, 2012, 12 noon at the Monument Park 17th Ward, 2795 South Crestview Drive. There will be a public viewing from 11:00 - 11:45 a.m. at the ward house. Funeral Directors: Larkin Sunset Lawn. Interment will be at the Logan City Cemetery.

Safety

So a few weeks ago Dedrick had the boys coming over to hang three pictures on the wall above the stairs. So we all know how hard it is to hang pictures on stairs, right! So this is how the boys hung the pictures.

Sorry the video is sideways!

100 Tornadoes

On 4/15/12 we had over 100 tornadoes in the area, the closest was about 10 miles from our house. I thought is was fun to watch and enjoy the sky changing. The kids had fun hanging in the basement and playing games.

Spring Break

So this year we had the chance to head to Utah for spring break has a family. The main reason was to see Dedrick's grandmother who is very sick, and see his brother. We drove in the new car to see how it would hand on long trips. The kids loved taking the trip to Utah to see family and friends. We went to the zoo, aquarium,  park, got to see grandma Lund, who flew into Utah. We were able to stay with my dad and his new wife, and my kids were able to get to know them. We also spent time with old friends for student housing.
It was great to see everyone, thanks for a great spring break.

I also want to say it was great to see Dedrick's grandmother who is very sick and be able to spend has much time with her. Also she got to see her only great-grandchildren. We love her and wish her comfort in this time!
